Canada ends In-Country work permits for visitors

In a surprising move, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced on August 28, 2024, that it would terminate a temporary policy allowing certain visitors to apply for work permits from within the country. This policy, introduced in August 2020, aimed to assist foreign nationals who were unable to leave Canada due to COVID-19 travel

Canada to reduce the number of temporary residents

Sometime in March 2024, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced that the Federal Government plans to reduce the number of temporary residents in Canada. Miller said that the programs that welcome temporary residents must reflect the needs and changing demands of the labour market. I received several inquires both from the employers and kababayans regarding work permit applications for caregivers where the LMIA application was received under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. An update took effect on June 18, 2024, to the ministerial instruction issued in June 2019 and in 2022 to instruct officers to refuse to process work
